Two Months

I can't believe my baby is already two months old!  Sometimes it seems like it has flown by, and others it feels like we have had him forever.  We went for his two month well check this morning, and it hurt my heart so much to see him get shots.  Here is what is going on at two months.

Hudson, at two months old you weigh 8lbs 5 ounces, and you are 22 inches long.  You are still on the tall skinny side, and I just keep waiting for you to hit a growth spurt.  All of your frineds that were born around the same time as you are so much bigger, but that is OK the Dr. said there is no need for concern and you are right on track.

You are still strickly breastfed, and we have it down now.  It started out really rough, but you are a pro now, and you even nursed in public for the first time this past month.  You usually nurse for about 10 minutes on each side every 2-3 hours.  There are times you get fussy and want to nurse for comfort, but you are still not a huge eater.  You have a touch of reflux and spit up ALL THE TIME.

We have officially established a bedtime routine that we try to stick to as much as possible.  We let you have a little tummy time, mommy and daddy give you a bath, we read a book, eat, and then its bedtime.  You are sleeping in your cosleeper all the time now, and we are hoping to move you into your crib this month.  You slept through the night for the first time a few weeks ago, and your mommy woke up in a panic thinking something was wrong with you.  It only happened that one night, but thats OK.  You have developed a little bit of a routine at night, we usually have your last feeding between 7 and 8, you are up at 12:00, 3:00, and usually up for good around 6.  Some nights you sleep through your 12:00 feeding, but it is rare.

You still come to work with mommy majority of the time, but I started leaving you with Nana some last week.

You are developing such a little personality, and smile a lot more these days.  You also like to "talk" to us, which melts our hearts.

You are such a strong little boy, and hold your head up really well.

You love to be propped up on our shoulders when you are held, so you can look around.

Mommy calls you my "busy little boy".  You are constantly looking around, rubbing your hands together, kicking your feet, and moving.

You love to shop with mommy :)

You think your daddy and Jax are hilarious.

You made several trips out to the farm

Celebrated your first holiday.

Wore jeans for the first time

Watched lots of football with daddy.

Melted our hearts with your sweet smiles

Wore camo for the first time.

Went to see santa

Had to get shots.

and here you are this morning snoozing away...

Hudson, words cannot describe the joy you bring to our lives.  We are feeling exceptionally blessed to have you as the holidays approach, and we are so excited for Christmas this year.  We cannot wait for santa to come visit you, even if you have no clue what it is all about :)

Biggest Loser-Week 3

We had our third weigh-in on Sunday, and here are the results.....

Me -3.6 lbs
Mom- -2lbs
Connie -.2
Ashley- -2.5 lbs

Luke-  -4.5 lbs
Dad -1.2 lbs
Jake -.5 lb
Marc -2 lbs
Michael -1.0 lb

Luke and I tied for the biggest loser!  We worked really hard last week,  it paid off.  I am really hoping to lose at least 3.5 this week, and that will be 10 lbs total for me since we started the contest.  I am so proud of everyone for keeping up the good work and we didn't have anyone gain weight!

Halloween

Now that it is almost Thanksgiving I am finally getting around to posting about Halloween.  I do have an excuse, I lost the cord to my camera and just got a new one in the mail.  Now I have a ton of pictures to load and I will be able to keep everyone updated better.  We usually go to my moms every year and trick-or-treat, but this year we went to my sister's new neighborhood to try it out, and I have to say I was a little disappointed.  My parents neighborhood is like one from a movie where there are hoards of kids everywhere, and people bring their kids to that neighborhood to trick-or-treat.  When we set out to get candy this year we were greeted with dark streets and many porch lights turned off.  Looks like next year we will be headed back to Nana and Pawpaw's to trick-or-treat.  Hudson only made it to a few houses because it was so cold, but that's OK.

                                                                     My sweet little skeleton

Maddie and Mia were both Ladybugs

Of course Macy Kate was too busy the
whole time for me to get any decent pictures of her,
but she was a witch.

Maddie passed out before we even
left the house

This is where Hudson did all of his
trick-or-treating from

Paw Paw and his babies

The day before Halloween I dressed Hudson up in a cute little outfit my friend Natasha gave to him, and we had a little photo shoot.

He is probably saying "daddy I am over this"

This was the only picture we got with props, because
he had a major blowout and had to be changed.

We are going for his two month check-up on Friday, so stay tuned for a full post with lots of pictures!

Biggest Loser....Family Style

If you all remember last fall my family started a weight loss competition, well its back!  My sister and I obviously have baby weight to lose, and the rest of my family still has additional weight they want to lose, so we decided to start the competition again.  I am going to make an effort to do much better with keeping you all updated this time.  I have had several people ask me how we do the contest so I wanted to refresh everyone and give you our rules.   We weigh in every week at the same time wearing the same clothes.  Just like biggest loser we take the percentage of the amount lost rather than lbs to keep it fair.  The biggest loser of the week gets a free pass, the person who loses the least has to pay $10, and everyone in between pays $5, so everyone has a little incentive to keep up with the diet.  If you had a bad week and decide you want to forfeit the weigh-in or don't show up you automatically pay $10, but the person with the least percentage of weight loss still has to pay their $10 as well.  Of course at the end of the contest the winner takes all!  We changed the rules slightly this year and decided we will not weigh in the weekends of Thanksgiving and Christmas.  If you have a good amount of family and friends who want to lose weight I am telling you all this is the way to do it, we had so much fun with this last year.  It gets quite competitive and the trash talking gets pretty hysterical.  It is so fun to do it with a group, because you are held accountable and during the winter months when most people gain weight you come through the holidays having lost weight.  We also really enjoyed it because the winter months tend to get boring and it gives you something to look forward to every week.  Sunday was our cheat day so everyone would bring something to the weigh in and we would all have brunch after or we would go out to eat afterwards.  I will say that everyone put some of the weight back on with the exception of my dad.  I just have to show you all pictures, because I am so proud of him.  When we weighed in last week for the first time he was 40lbs lighter than when we started the contest last year!  He has lost 10 lbs since we finished the contest last year and has made a complete lifestyle change.  Last week was our first weigh in and I lost 3 lbs, but we had some come into the contest late so we didn't pay money, this Sunday will be the first official weigh in where we pay money.  So I will start posting everyone's weight loss next week.....oh and the contest runs for 16 weeks.  Here are before and after pictures of my dad.....the before are at my wedding and he was about the same size as when we started the contest.  The after are from a few weeks ago at the farm, I didn't have a good close up but you get the idea.

Birth Story

I am finally getting around to blogging about Hudson's birth story.....better late than never right?

We arrived at Centennial Hospital around 12:30AM September 19th to be induced.  After we got checked in and settled into our room my nurse put some meds in my cervix that would help me thin out and dilate faster, since I was STILL only at a two.  She said she would check me again at 5 AM and if there was no progress she would start the Pitocin.  When she checked me at 5 I had not made progress so she gave me a small dose of Pitocin.  Around 9AM my doctor came in to check on me and I was only dilated to a three so she decided to break my water.  Boy did that do the trick because my contractions started coming on pretty strong not long after that.  Around 2 PM my nurse checked me and I was between a 4 and 5, at that point I decided I did not want to ride out the pain any longer and asked for my epidural.  That was the best decision ever, the time between asking for it and it kicking in was no fun.  From that point on it was just a waiting game and thankfully I was in no pain.  My nurse checked me again around 3:30 PM and I was completely thinned out and dilated to a 9 1/2...it was almost time to push.  I didn't take birthing classes so I didn't know what to expect and began to get really nervous.  After about 15 minutes she cleared the room out, and told me it was time to get started pushing, my mom and sister were on each side of me "coaching", Luke was at my head staring at the wall, and my mother in law was waiting with camera in hand.

My nurse (who I have to say was absolutely amazing) sat down with her bottle of olive oil (yep that's what she used to help him "slide" out ha ha) on the bed and very calmly said when she told me to I needed for push for 10 seconds and we would do three pushes back to back.  After one round of pushes she told me to stop she needed to call the doctor, and my doctor arrived with the rest of the "team" in just a few minutes.  Once my Dr was ready we did one more round of pushes and at 4:08PM he was here! I never in my wildest dreams imagined labor to be so easy and go so smooth.  I tell people it was almost as if it was a tranquil experience,  because everyone was so calm and it went so smooth that I didn't even know how to react when he came out, because it all happened so fast.  Of course once he was born there were tears of joy, and I had that special moment when I got to hold my baby boy for the first time.

I am so blessed and thankful that I had such a wonderful birth experience, and not one of those horror stories.  My mom contributes it to me staying so active and coming to her house to swim and do squats several times a week.  I am not sure if that was it or not, but I know I will definitely be following the same regimen with my next pregnancy.  I also have to credit the amazing labor and delivery staff at Centennial Women's Hospital, I think they definitely helped make the experience so wonderful.  Now on to the good stuff.....pictures!

Not my best look, but it was part of the experience.  I had to wear an oxygen mask throughout the entire labor and delivery because his heart rate kept dropping.  Once he was born my doctor discovered a knot in his umbilical cord which is very rare, but she thinks that's what was causing the problems with his heart rate.  She couldn't really say how long it had been knotted, but it only caused problems during delivery because of my contractions.

I think Luke's eyes were crossed by the end of the from watching my contractions on the monitor and the paper.
While we were all waiting around someone suggested guessing his time of birth, weight, and height.  As you can see most of Luke's family thought I was going to have a 9+ lb baby...thank goodness they were way off.

The best nurse ever!

Checking him out....I was a proud mama when she said his APGAR was 9 1/2

When they handed him to me I was for sure he was going to weight a lot because his hands and feet were HUGE, but it turned out he was just tall and skinny. 7lbs 2oz/ 20 inches.

My wonderful doctor giving us her congratulations, and Hudson snuggling with his mommy.
Proud daddy.

Our first family photo.

I think this is my favorite picture from that day.
